If they ask for a copy of your GC license and you don’t have a General Contractors license because it is not required in your state. Then explain that in a narrative.

4. Provide copies of all documents requested.

So, how do you fix it?

You need a pricing strategy that WORKS for your business, built on these key components:

1️⃣ Direct Costs:
Break the scope of work into line items and price every task and deliverable. This ensures you’re accounting for every dollar needed to complete the job.

2️⃣ Indirect Costs:
Running the business costs money—beyond just direct project expenses. Allocate a portion of those costs to each project while making sure only allowable expenses are included (this protects you in case of an audit).

3️⃣ Overhead Rate:
Many contractors don’t calculate this correctly! Here’s the truth: you DON’T apply the total indirect costs to each project. Instead, calculate a percentage:
(Total Overhead Costs ÷ Total Direct Costs) × 100.
Getting this wrong can be the difference between profit and loss!

4️⃣ Pricing Contingencies:
Want to stay within budget and keep your profit margins intact? Build in contingencies to cover unexpected expenses and make profitability predictable.
